McGregors 2006 Rosé

Rosés are making a real splash lately. We are finally overcoming the perception that not all pink wines are sugary white zinfandel. Throughout Provence France Rosè is an extremely popular warm weather wine. The flavors of Rosè can vary dramatically depending on which varietals are used. This Pinot Noir Rose is very delicate and it is an excellent reflection of the Finger Lakes.

The color of this Rosè is a very light salmon pink. One whiff of this one and it leaves no doubt that this is a Pinot Noir Rosè with it pronounced fruit forward nose. The nose is a combination of strawberry, lime and rose petal; I also get a slight hint of yeast (think champagne.) The taste is dominated by strawberry fruit that finishes with a crisp mineral finish.

Pairing this wine can be challenging due to how delicate it is. However I think that it pairs well with these some sautéed heirloom tomatoes.

Heirloom Tomatoes

-2 heirloom tomatoes sliced (Finger Lakes)
-½ tbsp grape seed oil (Finger Lakes)
-1 clove garlic minced (Finger Lakes)
-Sea Salt
-Pepper
-Parmigiano Reggiano
-Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-Basil (Finger Lakes)

Sweet the garlic in the grape seed oil and add the tomato slices. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Remove once cooked making sure to get all of the juice. Drizzle with a good quality olive oil and top with Parmigiano Reggiano. Garnish with a little basil
